Signs You Need to Call a Plumbing Professional

January 29, 2021

Sometimes plumbing issues can be handled yourself. Other times you need to call in the professionals. Here are 6 signs you may need to call a plumbing professional.

1.   You Smell Sewage

If you smell sewage in your home, or in your yard, there could be a drainage issue, or a clog in your line. Don’t ignore the smell as it could lead to major issues if a blockage is not dealt with by a plumbing professional.

2.   Water Gurgles Up

If one drain starts to gurgle while another is in use, or a drain gurgles while you’re using it, there is an issue with your plumbing. Gurgling means that something is stopping water and air from flowing in your plumbing, or a vent pipe is clogged. Either way, skip any at-home remedies, and call a plumber.

3.   Faucet Won’t Stop Dripping

A steady drip from a faucet can cost you greatly over time and can mean you have a crack in a pipe, or that a plumbing element was not installed correctly. Contacting a professional is the safest, and potentially most cost effective, way to deal with a constant drip.

4.   No Water Pressure

If you experience low water pressure in one faucet, there is likely sediment build up in the faucet head which can be an easy fix. However, if there is low water pressure throughout your whole home, there could be a larger underlying problem with your plumbing. Pipe damage or breakage can cause large leaks in your homes plumbing, leading to low water pressure.  Call a plumbing professional immediately if your whole home is experiencing low water pressure.

5.   Slow to Drain Sink

A slow sink drain may not seem like a big deal, especially if you pour a store-bought solvent down the drain and ‘fix’ the problem. But in most cases, you’re treating a symptom, not the cause. Contacting a plumber to get to the root of the drainage issue, whether it’s grease build up or a hair clog, can resolve the issue for good, and prolong the life of your plumbing.

6.  The Problem Keeps Coming Back

If a plumbing issue keeps coming back, it’s time to call a professional plumber. Continuing to try at-home fixes for repeating issues will only prolong the plumbing problem, and could even worsen it.
